Angilbert (fl. ca. 840/50), On the Battle Which was Fought at Fontenoy

The Law of Christians is broken,
Blood by the hands of hell profusely shed like rain,
And the throat of Cerberus bellows songs of joy.

Angelbertus, Versus de Bella que fuit acta Fontaneto

Fracta est lex christianorum
Sanguinis proluvio, unde manus inferorum,
gaudet gula Cerberi.

Puer Natus Est Nobis

PUER NATUS EST NOBIS,
Et filius datus est nobis,
Cuius imperium super humerum eius
Et vocabitus nomen eius,
Magni consilii Angelus.

Cantate Domino canticum novum
Quia mirabilia fecit.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
Et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen.

A child is born to us,
And a Son is given to us:
Whose government is upon His shoulder:
And His Name shall be called,
The Angel of Great Counsel.

Sing ye to the Lord a new song:
Because He hath done wonderful things.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be
World without end.
Amen.

Merry Christmas to all.
